**Hand-made Hairtoys**

Hand-made hair accessories bought from an art and artisan fair. Half the fun is picking from a pile of goods where no two items are exactly the same. The other half is knowing you are supporting local artists in their craft.

Do we have to dress up to become closer?

This is kawaii in a different way. Thought-provoking, to say the least...

Behind the Scenes with Gloomth! ^o^

My favourite alt-fashion label, Gloomth, gives a behind the scenes peek at one of their shoots. I'm completely in love with their mint-green dress!

**Decorating Sugar Cookies**

Mmm! My favourite part of making sugar cookies is definitely the decorating! As a kid, I absolutely loved Christmas and decorating gingerbread cookies ... and I generally consumed as much icing as I actually put on the cookies. >.<  Thankfully, I've gotten a bit better about eating the icing the before it gets to its desired location (though not much). Here are the fruits of my labour today:

I made the icing by first squeezing the juice out of a small lemon, then adding icing sugar until I found the consistency I wanted. I rounded it of with some vanilla extract and a bit of a water to keep the icing smooth. If you add enough water, this icing can be super smooth and you can tap the cookie to make it flatten into a smooth surface. However, this icing will not hold it's shape, so there's not much point using fancy nibs on your piping bag.  As one would expect, an icing made from lemon juice has quite the tang to it. I found this works great with the sweet sugar cookie, but if you feel it might be too tangy, maybe use a tiny dash of lemon extract instead.

o(^__^)o Yum! Sugar Cookies!

Mmm! Sugar cookies are my favourite cookie to make for three reasons:
  • They have a mostly fool-proof (ie. me-proof) recipe that I can't mess up
  • They are SO much fun to decorate
  • They are fun to give away to friends!

Today I made a small batch with some new cookie cutters I found (a strawberry and a flower). I tried something new by using a little metal pick and adding some dots and lines to the cookies before I put them in to bake. I think they turned out well! Tomorrow I decorate! ^_^

*~Doodles~*

While I have always loved to doodle, I just recently decided to attempt to replicate the cute styles found in Japanese imagery. A quick search of "kawaii _______" (donut, strawberry, ice cream) brought up hundreds of adorable pictures. I'm trying to figure out the proportions that create those distinctive, and terribly cute, little images. Here's my first attempt.... nevermind that it's on homework....

A close-up of my favourite:

RRcherrypie and Kracie Creativity! ^^

Just as I love to use the moulds from Sweets Key for baking purposes, RRcherrypie shows how to use a Kracie kit in a new and kawaii way. ^^

^.^ Handmade items and art fairs!

I love it when I find cute items that are made by hand by local artisans. Craft and art fairs are fantastic places to find one-of-a-kind goods that no one else will have, and you can support the local art economy at the same time.  Look for art fairs advertised in the local newspapers (they often don't have big budgets for advertising) or on your city's public website. Some art fairs have a small admission fee to cover costs. Also, be sure to pick up the business cards of the artists whose work you would seriously consider buying at a future time. Although tempting, don't just grab business cards as keepsakes: it costs them money to print and they generally don't have large budgets. Art fairs are also excellent for finding gifts. Get your Christmas shopping done way ahead of time!

I found this cutie at a local art fair for an extremely fair price. Never seen anything quite like again!

I Scream for Ice Cream! <(^o^)>

I wish it was as easy to make such a cute ice cream from edible materials as easy as it is to make it from fuwa fuwa paper clay! Expect to see many more of these! ^o^

I discovered this funny little site after seeing someone use it to enter a puri-kura contest. It's so much fun! Just upload your photo, add a frame, and choose for tons of cute characters and critters to your picture. Then export it and save it! It can also be used for embarrassing male friends and professors alike!

How I would love to witness this in person! Creativity abounds!
Thank you Tokyo Fashion News for posting.

Cute Stickies! ^o^

Sometimes you find the cutest things in the oddest places. When my friend invited me to the biggest fair in our city, I didn't expect to be shopping, much less shopping for adorable stickers from Japan! It turns out this fair included a HUGE vendor's alley, organized by country. My friend and I stumbled across the booth for Japan, and much to our delight, they had 3 giant boxes FULL of stickers just like these. What's more, they were only $1 a pack! Anyone who scrapbooks knows what an amazing deal that is! After much deliberation, I picked these 6 packs.

I wish I knew what brand is responsible for making these lovely stickers. Not only do they stick to everything (as they claim), they stay put! I have put them on my laptop, which gets unceremoniously stuffed into a backpack everyday, and these stickers still won't budge. I also use them on stationary (especially birthday cards and thank you notes) for a cute touch.

My only complaint with these stickers is that they appear to have space where some gems were supposed to go. I solved this easily enough my sticking my own rhinestones on with a tiny dab of glue. Presto!
I'll post again about other cute finds I discovered at the fair!
